The museum’s
herbarium has approximately 115 000 specimens, and of the
approximately
fifty
public herbaria in the Czech Republic it has the fourth largest collection
of vascular
plants. The majority of specimens come from Bohemia, with smaller numbers
collected in
Slovakia and Moravia. During the last twenty years collecting has
concentrated
on aquatic
species, and
the Museum of Central Bohemia has the largest
collection of
aquatic vascular
plants
in the Czech Republic. The herbarium serves
primarily as
a source of study material for taxonomic and phytogeographical work of
national
scope.
